Ryan Loftis
My journalism career began while a student at Central Michigan University. For 3 years I was a writer for the university newspaper, Central Michigan Life, consistently rated as the state’s best student publication. I eventually earned a promotion to senior reporter. My duties included profiling university students and faculty, previewing and covering campus events, writing stories about health and wellness, reviewing and writing articles about plays and films and covering appearances by nationally recognized speakers. In recognition of my dedication my editors named the award for persistence the Ryan Loftis Award. The following year I received the Most Dedicated Reporter Award.
Since May of 2008 I have been a contributing writer for monthly entertainment magazine INsite Atlanta. I have reviewed films and interviewed entertainment personalities including Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Nanette Burstein and actor Brandon T. Jackson. Today my main responsibility is writing preview articles on film and television seasons. These articles, approximately 3,000 words each, make excellent use of my passion for research and attention to detail.
The same year I became a contributing writer for Southeastern Luxury Publishing, headquartered near Atlanta. I have interviewed such luminaries as 2010 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Jamal Crawford; Super Bowl champion Daniel Wilcox; political columnist and television commentator Ron Hart; and “Good Morning America” food editor Sara Moulton. Additional subjects I have written about include the green movement, male grooming lounges, inventions, artists, farmers markets, designers, beach communities, games, golf resorts, spas, museums, real estate firms and schools turned into apartment buildings.
In fact, a particular article on a car wash so impressed its owner that he hired me to write articles for his banking software company in Alabama. I began in February of 2011 and have thus far profiled banks in Alabama, Arkansas, Texas, Florida, Arizona and Pennsylvania, as well as interviewing banking compliance officers nationwide. In August of 2011 I had an article published on the official Web site of the NBA’s Detroit Pistons.
